Lowering the Child Abuse rate in Lowndes County

Valdosta - With over 11 hundred cases reported last year, child abuse in Lowndes County is on the rise but some people are hanging signs of hope.

The Children's Advocacy Center is hoping to lower those abuse numbers.

With April being Child Abuse Awareness Month, they hung blue ribbons on every lamp post in downtown Valdosta.

The ribbons hold facts and prevention tips for child abuse, a message they hope will educate the community about this crime. "It's preventable. Child abuse is completely preventable. We know how to do it, we just need to work together as a community to do it," says Brenda Johnson, Executive Director of the CPA.

This is the first year they've placed these ribbons downtown. They plan to make it an annual event.

Boston, Mass.
